Cynthia S. Jackson died at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on March 25, 2013 as a result of complications from nonsmoking lung cancer. She was born in San Diego on May 12, 1958, the third of 5 children born to Paul and Nancy Sager. She attended San Deguito high school in Encinitas CA. and received her Bachelors degree in Arts from San Diego State University. She later received a Masters of Business Administration from National University. She met her future husband, Trevor Jackson, while attending a year abroad program at Heidelberg University in Germany in 1979. The couple moved to Swan Valley from San Diego in 1993 so that Trevor could work in the Northern Rockies.
Cindy was at first a teacher and then principal for the Santa Fe Montessori School in Solana Beach, California. In 1993 Cindy became the Executive Director of the American Red Cross for Eastern Idaho based in Idaho Falls. She held that position for a number of years before being promoted to the national Red Cross in Washington D.C. She later served as the Executive Director for the Red Cross serving all Western States and the Pacific Islands located in Sacramento. In recent years she took positions with the Red Cross as an interim Executive Director throughout the U.S. Her final two years were based in Norfolk, Virginia as the Chief Executive Officer for the Coastal Virginia Chapter of the Red Cross. She resigned from this position in January because of the cancer. Cindy served as the Chairman for the Swan Valley School Board from 1998 to 1999.
Cindy loved the lifestyle in the Swan Valley area, skiing and snow shoeing in winter and floating the river in summer as well as enjoying the abundant wildlife in her backyard. She always had a number of pet dogs to keep her company. She was a prolific knitter, producing many articles of clothing for friends and family.
Cindy leaves behind a very large number of friends throughout the Red Cross and social life across the nation and in England.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Trevor Jackson of Southampton, England; her parents, Paul and Nancy Sager of Morgan Hill, CA, her brother Marc (Karen) Sager of Apple Valley, CA, her sister Sue (Doug) Jacobson of Pullman, WA, her younger brother Glenn (Kitty) Sager of San Jose, CA and sister Kim (Matt) Sturm of Reno NV. Trevor and Cindy decided not to have any children early in their marriage.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Swan Valley Legion Hall at 4 p.m. on Thursday April 4. In lieu of flowers Trevor suggests that donations be made to the American Red Cross under Cindy’s name.
Trevor would like to acknowledge the professionalism, respect, and courtesy of the Swan Valley and Idaho Falls EMTs, the staff of the EIRMC Emergency room, and the 5th floor medical staff. He would also like to thank his friends in Swan Valley who have provided food, friendship, and comfort during the difficult past few months
