Woodrow Woody Weston Hudson Sr.

November 8, 1938September 19, 2014

Woodrow W. Hudson died September 19, 2014, at his home, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. Woody was born to Edith Josie and Horace Hudson on November 8, 1938, in Newport News, Virginia. He married Peggy Taylor on November 8, 1957, in the living room of Peggy’s parents’ house in Hampton, Virginia.

His career started at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia. He moved his family to Idaho in 1979, where he worked at the INL as a quality control manager. After retiring, Woody and Peggy moved to Las Vegas where Woody retired a second time as a vice president for SAIC. After experiencing warms winters in Nevada, he bought a winter home in Mesquite, Nevada. He worked, again, at the Oasis Golf Club in Mesquite, a few days a week. He got golf for free! He once got a hole in one at Sage Lakes Golf Course, in front of two witnesses.

Woody was a Sunday School teacher for 5th and 6th graders at Calvary Baptist Church for several years. He would walk into the classroom with a Bible in one hand and a bag of candy in the other. The kids referred to him as the Candy Man.

Woody is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Peggy Hudson; his children Teri (Bruce) Anderson, Westy Hudson, Darlene (Daren) Searle, and James Hudson; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Woody was a kind and gentle man. How truly blessed we were to have him in our lives. He loved his family, but most importantly he loved the Lord.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Matt McGukin, of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
