Carl was born to Anthony and Gloria Gould on March 31, 1962 in Long Beach, California. He was a devoted husband, father, a man of God, a patriot who loved his country, an entrepreneur and business owner, and someone who enjoyed having family gathered around him. He was an incredible cook, loved to barbecue, camp, sing karaoke, fish, bowl and play horseshoes. He practiced martial arts, earning the distinction of many awards in Karate-Jitsu and Shotokan. More than anything, he found joy in sharing the things he loved with the people who mattered most to him.
Carl met the love of his life, Lillie in 1996 while singing karaoke, and they married on May 10th 1997. Theirs was a rare kind of love, one that was evident to everyone around them and set an example of what it means to build a life together. They shared a love of travel and the outdoors, spending time at the farm, camping, hosting backyard parties with friends and family, and riding their Harley through the mountains of Colorado. Together, they built a home that became a gathering place for their family, filled with the memories and traditions they created over the years.
Carl’s children and grandchildren were one of his greatest accomplishments in life. He was deeply proud of each of them, finding his greatest joy in seeing them succeed and make their own way in the world. Carl also had a way with words, writing Lillie hundreds of poems and love notes throughout their 30 years of marriage. Their life together held a little bit of everything: hard work, travel, family, fun, and the everyday moments that, over time, became some of their most meaningful memories.
Carl was a proud father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren knew Carl as someone they could call for anything, regardless of the circumstances. He was a person they could count on, whether they needed help, advice, or someone in their corner. He also knew everyone’s favorite foods and made a point of spoiling them whenever they came to visit, showing his love in one of the ways he did best: making sure the people he loved were well fed and cared for. His role in their lives was defined by the unique relationships they shared with him.
Carl will be deeply missed by his wife and children, family, and friends. His absence will be felt at family gatherings, around smokers and campfires, and in the places he enjoyed with the people he loved most. The memories his family carries of him, from mountain rides and time at the farm to the home they built together, will remain part of their lives.
Carl is survived by his wife, Lillie Gould, his mother, Gloria, sister Rhonda Hensley (Curtis), and brother Nathan Looney. His children, Brandy Burris (Chris), Justin Gould (Shea), Larry Veuleman (Christen), Leslie Staffieri (Nicholas), and Leanna Masters; his 13 grandchildren, Dawstin, Emali, Charlie, Carson, Salina, Alex, Larry, Aaliyah, Bailey, Robert, Leo, Jonny and Izayah. He is preceded in death by his step-father Cecil Workman, his brother Bryan Gould and his father Anthony Gould.
A service honoring Carl’s life will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel in Independence, Missouri.
