Carolyn spent her childhood in Greenfield, Missouri and graduated from Greenfield High School. She later moved to Independence, Missouri where she married Gary Ackerman. She had her first daughter, Brenda, in Lamar, Missouri and twin son and daughter, Chad and Danelle’, in Wichita, Kansas.
Because of a meager childhood she always wanted her children to have better. Carolyn helped the family make ends meet by sewing both hers and the children’s clothes and always making sure they looked nice for special occasions. Carolyn was always involved with Fort Osage High School activities with her kids involving sports and social events. While driving a school bus, she developed an extended family as many of her riders sought her advice and guidance after a hard day at school.
There was never a problem she wouldn’t face; she would just consider it another challenge.
Taking on all challenges also meant assisting her husband Gary rebuild cars which helped with providing the extra things for her children including college of which she never had the opportunity.
Carolyn was a great example to all of us and instilled family values in her children. She went the extra mile in everything she did which included her battle with cancer. A large factor in this was her Bible background instilled in her by her mother when times were tough. Carolyn felt she was very blessed to have more than 9 years after the initial diagnosis which enabled her special Holiday time with the Family the birth of two granddaughters, Roslyn and Corin and seeing her favorite team the Royals win it all.
In lieu of any flowers please find it in your heart to assist the American Cancer Society or the University of Kansas Medical Center Westwood where she received world class care.
