Doris J. Wittig, 94, of Oak Grove, MO, went to be with Jesus and Oscar on February 25, 2023 at Aspire Senior Living of Oak Grove. She was born in Windsor, MO on April 21, 1928 to Buel and Bertha Jackson, and had lived in Oak Grove for over 75 years.
She was a gifted poet, a creative knitter and seamstress, and avid gardener. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
She graduated from Wellington High School in 1946 as class salutatorian, and attended Central Missouri State College for one year. Following college, she taught eight grades at Wide Awake School in rural Oak Grove. On Aug. 8, 1948, she married Oscar Wittig, and made their home in rural Oak Grove. They were married for nearly 69 years. She worked numerous jobs, including Sears, Lake City, and General Services Administration. She retired from GSA in 1994 after 23 years as a contracting officer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings; husband Oscar; two daughters (Melanie and Edith), and one grandson. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Mordente (husband Anthony); two sons, Charles Wittig (wife Sandra) and Russell Wittig, both of Oak Grove; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3rd from 10-11am, Funeral Service to follow, Faith Community Church, 102 W. 9th St., Oak Grove, MO 64075. Committal Serive at Blue Springs Cemetery following service at 2800 SW Walnut St., Blue Springs, MO 64015. The family requests no flowers; contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Child Rescue, a ministry for orphaned youth in Guatemala, or the charity of donor's choice.
