OBITUARY

Edward Lewis Alsup

September 24, 1949June 1, 2021

Edward Lewis (Ed) Alsup,71, of Linn Creek, Mo, passed away on June 1, 2021, surrounded by several of his loving family. Ed was born in Independence, Mo., September 24, 1949, to Robert and Jewel (Gibbons). He served his country from 1979 to 1992 as Air Defense Technician. He retired as a Senior Air Defense Technician. Upon his retirement, he continued as a consultant for the US Army. His ‘kids’ were the hundreds of young troops that he trained in use of many air defense systems used by the armed forces. He considered his ‘kids’ one of his greatest accomplishments, also his legacy of loyal service and commitment. Other survivors include his sister Susan Gunnells daughters Carol Wignall and husband Marc of Alliance, NE., Laura Spence and husband Jack of Lee's Summit, Mo. Ed was a loving Grandpa to 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Doug, and daughter Anna. Ed was a lifelong die-hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and nobody was happier than he was when the Chiefs won the second Super Bowl in February of 2020. He and his friend of many decades, Joe Helfert, of Madison, Al., never lost touch and kept together over the miles, particularly during football season. Ed was not happy unless he had several home improvement projects in the works, and never satisfied until they were completed to meet his standards. He loved boating at the Lake of the Ozarks. Brigette and Ed called the lake home for the past 20 years. Ed loved classic cars, motorcycles and owned several over the years. Ed’s funeral service is set for Monday, June 7, 2021, 9:30am with interment to follow in Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery. Please make donations, in Ed’s honor to the American Legion Post 21 – Independence, Mo.
