
Floyd A. Hopkins, age 79, of Raytown, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 31, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was surrounded by many of his long time caregivers and friends as he drew his last breath. He was born on March 24, 1936, near Fairfield, Missouri, the son of William and Gladys Wolfe Hopkins. Floyd grew up in the Fairfield and Warsaw communities and graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1955. He served in the United States Army and was stationed stateside at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Warsaw and was employed for several years at the Warsaw Lumber Yard, where he worked alongside his twin brother Lloyd and their father “Willie”. On March 15,1962 he was united in marriage to Mary Lue Mills at the First Baptist Church of Warsaw by the Reverend Russell F. Davis, pastor. As he said “I do” he instantly became a stepfather to six children at the young age of 26. Following their marriage they made their home in Warsaw. In 1969, Floyd found employment in Kansas City, MO with Armco Steel Inc. He retired as a Caster runout operator in 1999, after 30 years of service. In 2000 Floyd and Mary Lue built a home in Sterett Creek Village, Warsaw, Mo where they lived until his failing health necessitated their having to return to the Kansas City area. He spent many enjoyable hours hours fishing and hunting in the hills and on the lakes of his beloved Benton County. Floyd was an established “primitive” woodcarver, an impeccable needlepointer, and fly tyer. He was a storyteller and teacher to his grandchildren with whom he loved sharing his life’s experiences. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw, MO who truly loved people and helping his fellow man. Floyd was preceded in death by his father, Willie and mother Gladys, his twin brother, Lloyd on March 13, 2004. He is survived by his Wife of 54 years Mary Lue Hopkins of Raytown, six stepchildren, William R. Mills of Independence, James A. Mills of Shawnee, KS, Steven H. Mills of Odessa, MO, Anthony R. Mills of Lee’s Summit, Rebecca S. Green, Tampa, FL, Amy Lou Mills, Independence, MO, a brother, Melvin Hopkins of Warsaw, a sister, Shirley Stull also of Warsaw, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
