Gene spent his entire life in Independence, Missouri. It is there where he met his childhood sweetheart, Betty D. Lane and to later marry at the age of 21. They built the home they lived in and shared together for 64 years of marriage. Gene retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 35 years of service. Gene loved to spend his days fishing and hunting with his friend and son-in-law Pete. Whether it be on a local lake or their favorite fishing spot in Kenora, Canada. Gene and Betty purchased a lot in El Dorado Springs where they built a cabin on a lake where they would spend a lot of time with family and friends.
Gene was selfless in helping others. You could often find him building a friend's deck, pouring concrete, or countless other tasks helping family and friends. However, if he agreed to help there would always be a fair amount of colorful language accompanied with the stubbornness of a mule. Gene was blessed with a long and fulfilling lifespan. One of his last "hoo-rahs" was a cruise to Alaska and a trip to Maine with his two beloved daughters.
Gene is survived by his two daughters, Linda Waters and Teresa Morales (Pete). Grandchildren Kara Roedel, Falon Giles (Nick), and Tyler Waters. Five great-grandchildren, Tristian, Maci, Braedyn, Alister, and Willow.
