

George Litcthfield Hickman, age 95, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 701 S. Noland Rd., Independence, MO 64050, on June 12th at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, George kindly requests donations to be made to Masonic Lodge 391, an organization he held dear to his heart.
George was born on May 14, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert Allen and Edith May Hickman. He passed away on June 2, 2023. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him.
After serving as a Corporal in the US Army, George worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, the Gas Service Company, and later pursued a second career as a Funeral Director at Newcomer and Sons. In all of his endeavors, George demonstrated a commitment to excellence.
On October 17th 1954, George married the love of his life, Leona Dye. They shared a loving and fulfilling journey together. George actively contributed to his community by serving as the Scoutmaster of Troop 253, where he guided and inspired numerous young scouts. He and Leona were faithful members of St. Paul's United Methodist church in Independence.
George's lifelong commitment to the Masonic Lodge was unwavering. He was a past Master of Masonic Lodge 391 in 1984, dedicating his time and energy to the principles and values of the organization.
George will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his son Alan and daughter-in-law Tammy; his grandchildren, Megan Harrison, Bonnie (Corbin) Hickman, Philip (Emma) Hickman, and Jacob Hickman; his nephew, David Hickman; his companion, Jean Connell; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Wren, Beck, and Aiden.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Leona Hickman, as well as his mother Edith May, sister Edith Francis, and brother Robert Allen Hickman.
George Litchfield Hickman will be remembered for his genuine kindness, his love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his influential role as a Scoutmaster and member of Masonic Lodge 391. We take comfort in God's promise of eternal life, may George's memory be a source of compassion and inspiration to us all.
