With sadness in our hearts, we mourn the passing of Malcom Stewart Sieggen, who died unexpectedly and alone at his long-time home in Raytown, Missouri, the suburb of metro Kansas City, where he was born and raised. And although he lived most of his latest years in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, he always considered Raytown his home.
Malcom spent most of his early adulthood working for Trans World Airlines (TWA) in various support roles at Kansas City International Airport. He used his perks with the airline to travel extensively during this part of his life, including sabbaticals and spiritual pilgrimages to Hawaii and other remote locations. In addition, he was a motorcyclist, and on at least one occasion in the early 1970s he rode his BMW motorcycle from Kansas City to Orlando, Florida, to visit his cousin Audrey Lane (nee Kinghorn) and her family. When he put his motorcycle away for te last time, he switched modes of transportation to trains and buses, and he used those to show up (often at the last minute after days of travel) for numerous family celebrations in Florida.
Throughout his long and interesting life, Malcom enjoyed walking and collecting things. In fact, he often walked most places in and around town in both Raytown and in Highlands Ranch. He continued to walk almost daily, even after he was struck by an automobile a few years ago leaving him with considerable knee pain and decreased mobility. And he never stopped collecting things, either. Cars. Photographs. Maps. Memorabilia. If he liked it, he saved it. So much so, in fact, he acquired several storage units in which to preserve his collection.
He is survived by his sister, Victoria Sieggen-Cozzie. Cousin Morag Miller (nee MacKinlay). Second cousins David Lane, Janet Berner (nee Lane), Gerald Lane, Judi Halal (nee Lane).
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Margie Sieggen.
Malcom was the best brother in the world to Vicki, and he was the kindest, sweetest and most likeable person. He made fast friends wherever he went. Our hearts are broken, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. No formal funeral service is planned. Cremation will be carried out by Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations requested for local chapters of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
