Mary Charlene (Hammond) Barker died October 20, 2017, in Independence, MO. She was born September 13, 1940 in Mount Vernon, MO. Besides being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary enjoyed music, art, writing poetry, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She valued honesty and loyalty to family and friends, above all else. As a Baptist follower, she believed strongly in God and faith. While handling marriage, home and children, she also found time to work at a luggage factory and as an ammunition tester for the Montgomery Ward Company. She also enjoyed being a librarian and donated her time to a local battered women’s shelter. She is survived by her two sons, William Charles and Christopher Wayne, as well as two granddaughters, Stephanie Nicole and Cheyanne Mary. She was laid to rest in Goss Cemetery, Mount Vernon, MO on October 26, 2017. Memorials or donations should be made to Alzheimer’s research in her honor.
