

Mirla was born in Malabon, Metro Manila in the Philippines to Teresita & Sindulfo Nuñez and was the oldest of 7 children. She attended the University of the East in Manila, Philippines. She focused on her studies and graduated Cum Laude; receiving a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting.
Mirla started work at Consolidated Food Corporation in Pasig, Metro Manila where she met the love of her life, Paulino De Los Santos. She got her visa in 1969 and moved to the US to start building the foundation for their future in Kansas City, MO. When Paulino got his visa in 1970, he proposed to her and they were married in the Philippines in 1971. They went back to KC and eventually moved to Independence where they lived for over 51 years. Mirla worked hard raising their three children; Marites, Alan & Edwin while devoting 34 years of her career at UMB in downtown Kansas City, MO. Mirla loved her family and friends and was there for them with anything they needed. She was active in her community; singing with the Sampaguita Choir, held several roles, such as Treasurer and Auditor, with the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, and volunteering with the St. Mary’s Pantry.
Mirla was known for her cooking skills, making countless delicious meals enjoyed by many. She loved gardening and travelling. Later in life, she cherished babysitting her grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events.
Mirla was preceded in death by her parents, Teresita & Sindulfo Nuñez and her sister, Azucena Kuhlmann. She is survived by her husband, Paulino De Los Santos; their children, Marites Shields (Matt), Alan De Los Santos (Lindsey) and Edwin De Los Santos (Melisa); grandchildren, Kai & Nico De Los Santos and Jacob & Madelyn De Los Santos; her siblings, Reynaldo Nuñez, Bert Nuñez, Rebecca Pacheco, Mario Nuñez and Celso Nuñez.
Services for Mirla will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will begin at 8:30am with Mass of Christian Burial starting at 10am. Burial following the funeral service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 701 S. Noland Rd., Independence, MO 64050.
