Ray Lee Stagner, 61 of Independence, Missouri was called home by his Heavenly Father on October 12, 2017. A visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 16, from 6-8pm, funeral services on Tuesday, October 17 at 10am at Newcomers Noland Road Chapel, burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Ray was born February 2, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Cecil and Marie Stagner. Ray married Brenda Cook on November 18, 2000. Ray’s life work was as a small engine mechanic, but he also enjoyed a long career as a corrections officer and instructor at Northwest Missouri Correctional Center, before retiring in 2010. He was certified in several different vocational areas. Many also remember him as a Little League Coach, and as part time police officer in Plattsburg, Missouri, where he raised his boys in their Perrin, Missouri home. Ray Lee grew up on his family’s farm home near Stewartsville, Missouri, and graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1974. Ray Lee could always be counted on as the steady “rock” of his large extended family. He was a loving and devoted husband, proud son and brother, father of two and grandfather of five. Generous with his time and talents, he will always be remembered for being there to lend a hand (and a wrench) to family, friends, acquaintances and strangers alike. His outgoing personality and corny jokes were among his most endearing and memorable qualities. Ray attended the First Church of God in Independence, Missouri, where he was very active. Ray served unselfishly as Chairman of the Board Trustees, Usher and an active part of the Kid’s Club. He provided love and devotion to the adult congregation and the many children who looked up to him. Ray faithfully provided maintenance and care to the church and property. Ray was looked upon as a good Christian brother. Ray is survived by his dear wife Brenda Stagner, son; Daniel Lee Stagner (Jacquie), granddaughters; Lenora and Mirella of Berkley, Michigan, son; Mathew David Stagner (Molly), grandchildren; Finn, Rory and Willa of Des Moines, Iowa. Sisters; Sharon (Mike) Pickens, Joy (Steve) Tuey, Rita Sheppard, Dorothy Stagner and Alice Stagner. Preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Marie Stagner and brother Bill Stagner (Terrie). Donations in memory of Ray may be made to the First Church of God’s Kid’s Club, this would be a true tribute to Ray’s love for the Kid’s Club. Condolences may be shared at www.nolandroadchapel.com
