Roland Jean Lung was born on August 23, 1934 to Mary Elizabeth and Willert Frederick Lung. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1952. He worked at Bendix (Honeywell) and Westinghouse in the Tool & Dye industry. He met Gail Herder at Evangelistic Center Church (ECC) and they married May 12 1956 - they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in May of 2026. Roland was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and was stationed in Kileen, TX at the same time as Elvis Presley. Their son, Steven Martin Lung, was born in 1958 and their daughter, Martha Joanne (Lung) Herman was born in 1972. Roland continued working at Bendix after being discharged from the Army in 1959 until he felt the call of God to work in the printing ministry at Global Outreach Ministry at ECC. He worked there until the print shop closed in 1989 and he went to work at Quality Litho until he retired. Roland accepted the Lord as his Savior as a child and served Him all the days of his life. Roland and Gail went on many mission trips proclaiming the gospel. He had a heart of young people. He served at Camp Standlee for over 30 years and taught in the Junior Sunday School Department for many years. His special love was fishing - he spent many days fishing at "the Pitts" which his special fishing buddy Ralph Triebel. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Gail Lung of the home, son Steve Lung of Lee's Summit, daughter Marti and grandchildren Abby and Zac Herman of Olathe and his sister, Norma Hatten (Tom) Cole. Roland was the jolly one of the family and will be missed.
"Well done thy good and faithful servant."
