Ruben honorably served in the United State Navy from 1955-1959 relocating to Kansas City, then Independence Missouri, where he lived for over sixty years. Ruben married Doris Leona Kemper on December 28, 1963, the love of his life; they were married for over 59 years.
Ruben proudly worked for the United States Postal service for decades, working his way from clerk to superintendent and inspector. After his retirement, he enjoyed sacking groceries for 19 years at Price Chopper, winning “Best Bagger” two years in a row. Many cheerful hours were spent at Gloria Jeans coffee, where he met many friends. Ruben and Doris enjoyed community with Fairmount Christian Church in the Wedding Ring Class throughout their marriage. Eventually becoming residents at Foxwood Springs Retirement community, where they won the hearts of another loving community, and joined the Raymore Christian Church.
Ruben was an inviting, caring and passionate man who made others feel seen and valued. He was candid when sharing his heart, and in expressing his love and affection with those that he cared for. His son Jay noted, “The single most important lesson that you taught me was how to treat a lady”. Ruben’s honor, adoration and tenderness towards his wife Doris remain a hallmark of his days.
Ruben and Doris loved to travel together; from Mexico, to Hawaii, to Alaska, just to name a few. Ruben and Doris attended the 1970 New Orleans Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl. Chief’s fans through and through! The Guerra’s included their son on many trips, and eventually their granddaughters, visiting Branson annually, for many years.
Ruben (El Perico, Rube, Tito) above all else, desired to love his family and serve God. He invited humor, affection, and fun into the lives of everyone he befriended. Ruben often shared his philosophy of “family first”, while bragging about his son and his three granddaughters.
Ruben invited many into his family and close circle - He made strangers friends, and friends into family.
Ruben passed, in the early morning of August 26, 2023, after spending days surrounded by family and friends. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Doris and the entire family want to thank you for coming to celebrate his beautiful life. We are grateful for your support and prayers.
