Sandra “Sandy” Lee Smith peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on February 8, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born on April 22, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Leona Christine Hernandez and Lawrence Romo Hernandez. Sandy's life was one of unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and her deep faith in God.
Sandy’s journey was always guided by love and compassion. She built a life of warmth and kindness, always making time for those she cherished. Her heart was a haven for anyone who needed it. Whether it was through heartfelt conversations with strangers at Walmart or spending time with her loved ones, Sandy’s presence was a gift to all who knew her.
In her marriage to Howard Lee Smith, she found a partner who shared in her joy, and together, they were blessed with two daughters, Marla A. Smith and Lisa R. Smith. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she found great joy in watching her family grow. Sandy’s pride and joy extended to her granddaughters, Monique (Dominique) K. Sotelo and Gina M. Wetzel, and her great-granddaughters, Penelope J. Border and Mila A. Sullivan, who brought immense light into her life.
Sandy was a beautiful soul inside and out, with a heart of gold. Her love had no boundaries—she gave freely, unconditionally, and with such a profound spirit that it touched everyone she met. She will be remembered for her incredible generosity, her infectious kindness, and the way she made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Leona Christine Hernandez; her father, Lawrence Romo Hernandez; her brothers, Daniel Richard Hernandez and John Joseph Hernandez; and her sister, Betty Ann Rodriguez.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Howard Lee Smith; her daughters, Marla and Lisa; her granddaughters, Monique and Gina; her great-granddaughters, Penelope and Mila; and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they made with her. Sandy's love and light will continue to shine in their hearts, and she will be deeply missed, always and forever.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love, prayers, and kindness during Sandy’s final days. Your support has meant more to them than words can express. Sandy’s beautiful soul will be missed beyond measure, but her love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made for her husband to cover these unexpected final expenses.
