Sharon's Celebration of Life is scheduled on May 3, 2025 - please see details at the end of this obituary.
Sharon was born on April 18, 1941, in Edgewater, Colorado to Jesse LeRoy and Rilla Marie Honnold.
Sharon was a smart, independent, caring woman with a master’s degree in chemistry. She was a College Professor and a Water Resources Guru for the US Geological Survey in Denver, CO.
Sharon was a big supporter of the Girl Scouts organization by being a Girl Scout herself, then leading her daughters’ troops and encouraging them to continue in the program to achieve the highest award levels available. She became an essential helper to her granddaughters’ troops in both Colorado and Missouri. She was very proud that all her grandchildren participated in Scouting and that 3 of her grandsons obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts.
Sharon always had a strong presence in the Methodist church - as a Lay Speaker, choir member, UMW member, Children’s Church Leader, Bible Study Leader, Devotions Writer and Special Program Coordinator.
Sharon had a great love for Christian music, from Hymn Stories of the Methodist Hymnal to Contemporary Christian Music. She was never without a song in her heart to share.
Sharon (Gran) held a big presence in her grandchildren’s lives by traveling with them and frequently caring for them when they were young. As they grew older, she never failed to know exactly what each of them were doing and was proud to talk about them to anyone who would listen.
Sharon loved the outdoors (especially time in her little garden) and time with friends and family. She spent many, many enjoyable hours playing Bingo, card games and board games with her family and friends.
Sharon founded the Grain Valley Chapter of The Red Hat Society- The Valley Dolls - and spent many years as their Queen Mother.
Sharon had a great collection of hats (many of them Red) and enjoyed wearing them everywhere she went. She was known as the ‘Hat Lady’ in her many different circles.
Sharon had many favorite hobbies including sewing, crocheting, creating crafts for her children’s church ministry, hand and computer-generated greeting cards and, during these last few years, coloring programs and puzzles on her iPad.
Sharon is survived by her brother Greg Honnold of Lompoc, CA and his children Greg Jr. and Richard; her daughter and son-in-law Rolanda & Joe Jacobovitz of Ocala, FL and their children Tony and his wife Ashlee, Jessica, Tim and James; her daughter and son-in-law Tamara and Rich Burroughs of Blue Springs, MO and their children Alex and Tess.
Sharon was an integral part of the daily lives of her family and so many others - she will be deeply and profoundly missed.
