Steven Bruce Oetting was born January 24, 1956 to parents Norman and Catherine Oetting. Steve grew up with his sister Sandy, who he remained close with all of his life. Steve lived in Concordia, MO on a farm until age 5 when his family moved to Independence. Steve grew up with a close group of friends and attended Messiah Lutheran School and later, Truman High School. He has remained friends with these childhood friends, all who have been very supportive during his journey with cancer.
Steve married Jennie on July 9, 1977 in Independence. They adopted two wonderful children, Brock and Rachel. He was a fantastic father - always playing games, going to sporting events, and making up fun things to do.
Steve worked for Allis Chalmers for 10 years with his buddy Bruce. He later worked for Chemcentral for 30 years until retirement. There, he worked with Craig Nienhueser and made other great friendships that were special to him.
Steve enjoyed fishing, golfing and sports. He was very particular about his yard and cars as well. Steve was very supportive of the kids and grandkids with their sports activities, which included coaching soccer, attending all practices and games (no matter how far away!).
Steve attended St Paul's Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He was active in church in the past as an Elder, youth leader, and Bible class instructor. Steve embodied the Golden Rule.
Steve and Jennie were married for 48 years. They shared a wonderful love and were blessed to have had their time together, especially the last 2 1/2 years after retirement.
He will be missed dearly until we meet again in Heaven.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Catherine (née Wehrs).
He is survived by his wife Jennie (née Hackett), sister Sandy Haines (Tom), son Brock (Lauren), daughter Rachel Welch (Ethan), grandson Jordan, granddaughter Alli, 4 grandkitties and 2 granddogs, as well as many beloved cousins and extended family members.
