Timo was born on March 1st, 1942 in Jerez de Garcia Salinas, Zacatecas, Mexico. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 arriving with very little money and knowing very little English. Despite the odds, he was still able to live life to the fullest. He was always able to provide for his family as well as giving them opportunities throughout their lives. He truly lived the American dream. He worked 30 years with BNSF (Kansas City Terminal Railway). He started as a trackman, worked his way up to foreman and eventually retired as a track inspector. He never turned down requests to work overtime. After retirement, Timo’s passion became running 5k’s. He ran many each year, but his favorite was the Thanksgiving Day 5k run. He loved to show off his awards. He also loved going to Royals and Chiefs games. Timo loved to travel. In addition to the yearly road trips to Mexico he also loved trips to the beach and cruises. Some of Timo’s favorites were: sweets (especially ice cream), cafecitos, laughing, pranks, bananas, looking for bargains at Cargo Largo, leaving napkins in his seat, dancing, flashlights, lottery tickets, and saying “thank you for coming and thank you for leaving”. Above all, Timo had the best smile, the biggest and most giving heart, was a great role model, was so thankful for everything and was the greatest father anyone could ever have.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Carmela Gamboa, siblings: Martha Sanchez, Lourdes Gamboa, Chayo Lopez, Socorro Estrada and Luis Gamboa.
Timo is survived by daughter, Jackie (Galen) Slagle; daughter Angie (Seth) McMenemy and son Timmy (Celeste) Gamboa; grandchildren Antonio Linhart, Ethan McMenemy and Isabella Gamboa; and Timo’s siblings Francisco Gamboa, Paty Camargo, Felicitas Gamboa as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be collecting items for Timo’s memory care unit including: toiletry items(tooth brushes, shampoo, toilet paper, tooth paste, deodorant, etc), craft items (coloring books, markers, crayons), cozy socks and blankets or monetary donations.
The Gamboas would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful staff at The Oxford Grand at Shoal Creek and Ascend Hospice for their amazing care and compassion. Timo was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.
The family would appreciate during the visitation that families would wear masks.
To honor Timo’s love for KC sports, the family is encouraging everyone to wear their favorite Chiefs or Royals gear to the services.
