Yoly Snell (Griffin) died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, at The Groves, where she had retired in 1998 after many years of dedicated service as a CNA.
Born in Castillejos, Zambales, Philippines, Yoly met her late husband, Dennis Snell, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. After marrying, she moved to Independence, Missouri, where they raised two children, Michelle and Michael, and celebrated over 20 years of marriage. Together, Yoly and Dennis were active and devoted members of Calvary Presbyterian Church and enjoyed vacationing at the Lake of the Ozarks where they could spend time fishing with family.
After becoming a U.S. citizen, Yoly proudly earned her high school diploma by attending night classes at Van Horn High School, and later obtained her CNA certification, pursuing a meaningful career in caregiving.
Later in life, Yoly married Thomas Griffin. Over their 29 years together, they embraced retirement—enjoying family gatherings, dinners and dancing with friends, and singing together in the church choir. Yoly especially cherished her trips back to the Philippines to visit family, as well as the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Yoly was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Consolacion Majello Sanchez, her twelve siblings, and first husband, Dennis Snell.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Griffin; her children, Michelle Jones (Vincent Rist) and Michael Snell (Rachel Jewett); step-daughter, Jessica Griffin; her grandchildren, Hayley Snell, Hunter Jones, Taylor Jones, Skye Jewett-Hill; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 11th, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W Sheley Rd, Independence, MO 64052.
