He was born in Qu’Appelle to Phyllis and Reginald Paddington. He grew up on his parent’s farm six miles north of Qu’Appelle and attended Englewood school, a one-room schoolhouse southeast of the family farm. As a young man, he married Roberta Spencer, his wife for over fifty years. Together, they had two sons, Randall and Douglas. Dennis was a lifetime resident of the Town of Qu’Appelle and served two terms as a town councilor.
He was an entrepreneur. He had a telephone repair business of which he employed many local guys. He had a sand and gravel business and ran a service station. He enjoyed farming and worked the original family farm till he was in his early seventies. He loved to fly. He had a pilot’s license, flew a variety of small aircraft and built an airfield and hangar just outside of town of which later became his shop and sanctuary.
He enjoyed gardening, had a small produce stand and often gave fresh vegetables away to seniors around Qu’Appelle. He had a large respect for animals and adopted many stray dogs. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren.
Left to love and honour his memory are his sons, Randall and Douglas, Doug’s wife Candy, their children, Brett and Karley, Dennis’s brothers Russell and Clifford and their wives and families and the many cousins and nephews from the Paddington and Spencer families. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Roberta in May of 2017 and his sister’s Dorothy and Shirley.
The family would like to thank our friends and neighbours in Qu’Appelle who helped Dennis in his later years. Special thanks to Mike Longpre and his girlfriend who went above and beyond to make sure he was doing okay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dennis’s name to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue - Unit 26, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 1V9.
