Melrose will be remembered by her family and friends as a woman whose independent nature and love of life gave her the courage to tackle most situations with determination, compassion and honesty. She deeply loved her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was proud of their accomplishments and she was by their side every step of the way. She believed in hard work and demonstrated that throughout her entire life.
She left school at an early age to work with her parents on the family farm due to her brothers leaving to serve overseas in WWII. She married her Marshall in 1960 and had 40 wonderful years together until his passing in 2000. They both took up golfing in their later years and spent many days with family and friends exploring the many courses offered in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
She loved to sew and knit and crochet and she has left behind many beautiful pieces that will be admired and cherished. She was determined to stay in her home for as long as she could but she came to realize this past summer that she had to make a change. In November she moved to Hayes Haven in Indian Head and although it would never be home she was determined to make the best of it. She recognized it as a place she needed to be and enjoyed the staff and stated many times at how well she was cared for and treated.
Melrose was predeceased by her husband Marshall, by her parents David and May Craig, by her two brothers Ross and Allan Craig and by her two sisters Norma Brown and Harriett Dixon.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Brian) Behrns and their children Liana and Kyle, and daughter Laurie (Alden) Rohatyn and Laurie’s children Michelle and Taylor. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart and who she loved to sit down with, visit and share a cup of coffee.
As per her wish, a graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Indian Head Hospital Foundation, Box 1547, Indian Head or Hayes Haven Activity Fund, Box 1090, Indian Head.
She will be missed and loved forever.
