WHITING – On Saturday, November 30, 2013 William Millar Whiting passed away peacefully in Fort Qu’Appelle SK. at the age of 88 years. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jared (Jill), Chris (Garth), Gord (Celine), Dave (Carol); thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; special friend Fran Glascock; brothers and sisters: Maury, Elsie, Ethel, Percy, Gordon, Jack and Pat. He was predeceased by sister Joan. Bill was born June 9, 1925 in the Vernon District and grew up in Qu’Appelle. In 1943 he joined the RCAF and trained as a pilot. After the war ended he and his brother Gord operated a grocery store in Qu’Appelle. This was followed by employment as a patrolman with the Department of National Resources in Battleford and in 1958 he joined the staff of the Fish Culture Station in Fort Qu’Appelle where he worked until his retirement from the Provincial Government in 1984. During his time at the Hatchery, Bill developed many life long friendships with the staff there. He looked forward to each day with them and the memories they made together. A long time B-Say-Tah resident, Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, a great cook, a good neighbour, a loving brother and a devoted father and grandfather. His family was very important to him. At his request, no formal service will be held. He has asked his children to have a private burial at a later date. His family would like to thank the Fort Qu’Appelle doctors and staff at the All Nations Healing Hospital where he was always treated with kindness and respect. He will be dearly missed.
