Alfred Paul Klingenberg

Al devoted his life to his family, his faith, and service. He proudly served in the United States Army and had a distinguished 28-year career with the Indiana State Police including serving as the final acting Commander of the Redkey Post.

Al met the love of his life, Annette, at Gold Circle, a local department store in Dayton, Ohio, where they both worked. They were married in February 1978 and shared nearly 50 years of life together.

Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Annette; his children, Leslie Klingenberg, Brian (Amanda) Klingenberg, and Daniel (Gabriella Korba) Klingenberg; his grandchildren, Hatcher, Ellison, and expected grandson; his sister, Lisa (Greg Greene) Klingenberg Greene. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Erik Klingenberg and Eleanor Allard Klingenberg and his brother, Britt Klingenberg.

He loved being outside in his yard, taking walks, collecting challenge coins, and many other hobbies he was drawn to throughout his life. He loved spending time with his wife attending concerts and talking about all of life’s challenges and joys with her. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Al was a lifelong learner. His intelligence and curiosity led him to earn a Master’s degree in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University, where he later returned as a professor teaching Criminal Justice. Teaching was a constant throughout his life coaching his children in sports and how to drive like they were police officers in one of his high speed pursuit driving classes.

Above all, Al will be remembered as a strong man of faith, integrity, and a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. Despite his tough appearance, his family knew him as a sweet and caring man who made a lasting impact on the ones he loved.

Al will be cremated and memorialized at the Heroes of Public Safety Memorial section at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. Al’s interment will take place in the Spring.

The family will be having a small private gathering to celebrate Al’s life.
