Obituary of Alice Louise McWethy
Alice Louise (Robertson) McWethy, 90, passed away April 28, 2020. She was born at home on January 15, 1930 in Indianapolis. Alice is survived by her children: Randy (Pam) McWethy and Sandy (Kim) Foddrill; grandchildren: Kelly Reed, Susan (Joe) Gemmato, and Stacy (Jeff) Knoop; great-grandchildren: Jonathan Reed, Madilyn Ellison, Hailey Foddrill, Maleah Ellison, Luke Jackson, and Logan Jackson; sisters: Mary “Poncho” Batman and Martha Hamilton Clift; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Wade McWethy; parents Francis and Sylvia (Baker) Robertson; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Donald Barron; grandson Jonathan Pierce; brother Paul Robertson; sisters Rebecca Russell, Sarah Jane Robertson, Pauline Robertson, Ruth Vester, and Wanda “Coonie” Underwood Arthur. Anyone who met Alice knew she loved two things: the Lord and her family. Growing up attending the West Morris Street Free Methodist Church, Alice enjoyed listening to hymns and reading her Bible. As the oldest girl among a family with nine children, Alice helped care for her siblings and developed exceptional domestic skills like cooking and sewing. Her time barrel racing speaks to her love of horses and her spunky personality. After graduating mid-year from Ben Davis High School in 1948 she married John McWethy. Together they built a home and filled it with three children who did their best to keep their parents on their toes. Alice worked for many years at the RCA Plant on the eastside of Indianapolis. In her free time, she and John enjoyed camping and square dancing. As the presidents of the Petticoat Junction Square Dance Club and members of the Rolling Squares of Indiana (a roller-skating square dance club) they represented Indiana at events across the midwest. Alice will be remembered for her love of and pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the glimmer in her eye when she played Mrs. Claus each December, and her insistence on hugging and kissing every person she met. Alice didn’t know a stranger and shared her spark with everyone she met. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N. Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46219. Private Funeral Services for the family will be held on Monday at 11:00 am and you are invited to view the live stream on Facebook.
