

64, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Andy was born December 13, 1951 in Indianapolis to the late Adolph and Cornelia (Welch) Chrapla. He was a 1969 graduate of Cathedral High School and then attended Vincennes University. Andy’s gift of gab and quick wit meant he never met a stranger. He was a creative man who loved new experiences. Andy had an extraordinary talent for designing and building furniture. He and Marlene travelled to six continents and to many National Parks. He engaged others in his travels and developed an incredible appreciation of different cultures. One of his favorite things to do when he arrived home, was to recreate in his own kitchen the many wonderful cuisines he experienced in his travels. He loved cooking and sharing in conversation at the table with friends and family. Andy had an amazing memory and special interest in Civil War history he shared with others. When he wasn’t cooking or creating in his workshop, he could be found, with his dogs, Jack and Ginger, tending to his gardens, with a beer in hand. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marlene Reich; children, Oona (Rico) Elmore and David (Tennessee) Chrapla; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Alexis, Saskia, Drew, Brielle and Keahla; siblings, Ann (John) Long, Margaret “Mag” Chrapla, Ellen Chrapla and Michael (Ellen) Chrapla and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends… Andy’s family will receive family and friends at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary from 2 – 6 pm on Saturday, November 5th. Following the gathering at the mortuary, everyone is in invited to continue in celebration of Andy’s life at the home of Oona and Rico Elmore at 5857 Winding Way Lane Indianapolis, IN 46220. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to: Southern Poverty Law Center, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis or to Humane Society of Indianapolis.
