In 2008 when Dad, Ray Williams, was terminally ill with liver cancer, he arranged a 50th Anniversary event for Mom, Audrey (Mayes) Williams, and invited many folks from all over. It was so terrific to see some of Dad's family in San Diego and Art had made the trip, too. I had met Uncle Art only once, when I was 9 or so, and so it was so nice to talk with him and hear bits about his life as we all visited at Mom and Dad's place and later, at the party. 

When the event, which was held at my parent's church near their home, was winding down, Art was talking about the Pacific Ocean and how he'd never seen it. It was nighttime by then and he was flying out the next morning; there was no way I was letting him go back home without seeing the ocean at least once. I did some arranging and asking around who might like to join us, but it ended up just me and Art in the car headed to La Jolla Shores. I went to all the beaches in San Diego and nearby growing up, especially after getting my driver's license and a car at 16, but it's La Jolla's beaches that continue to call to me to this day. While La Jolla Cove is my most-cherished spot on that beach, it wasn't feasible to go there at night, so it was the main beach, La Jolla Shores, we landed on. 

I didn't really know Art, but just from that day alone I felt he was a sensitive, sweet person in himself. That he had a big heart and tried to be open-minded. As he stood on that beach, I asked if he wanted to be alone. He said no, as he breathed in the salty air, listened to the waves, and looked up at a sky full of stars and a lovely moon, stretching his arms up. We walked together on the sand, toward the waves. I remember the breeze blowing back his long hair. I remember the smile on his face. I remember his gratitude to me for bringing him to this grand ocean for a short visit. I'll always keep this memory of Art in my mind.

I love you papaw, i hope you're playing guitar and singing to the angels. You will be missed terribly.

Our Prayers will remain ongoing for Family and Loved Ones. I can remember our bicycle days and being cool, perfecting the "Blue Lites Band" and "Rexie what is really going on". Until we meet again my friend, Peace.
