Bennett Lee Moss (72) left this world peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Bennett Moss was born in Indianapolis, IN to Hue Bennie and Geraldine Moss on May 7, 1953. He attended Grandview Elementary, Westlane Junior High School and North Central High School. During his high school years, he was a member of the wrestling team. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he was a mechanic on the airplanes.
Bennett gave his life to the Lord, baptized at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where he sang in the Sunshine choir under the direction of Susie Tate.
On June 4, 1977, Bennett married Alice Francine Ellis. They were married 48 years until his death. Bennett and Alice’s union was blessed with two beautiful children, Bennett Junior (BJ) and Tracie. Bennett was a hardworking man that wanted the best for his family. After 30 years of excellent service at IBM as a Customer Engineer and later an IT Networking Specialist, he retired on December 31, 2009. His IT knowledge and skills remained in high demand, as he was pursued by various companies after his retirement, including Comcast, TEKsystems, and State Farm Insurance Company.
Bennett loved his entire family. He was always wanting to ensure there were family gatherings, especially during holidays. Everyone looked forward to the big summer gatherings. A consistent memory includes family cookouts at their home or Eagle Creek Park. The epic basketball and volleyball games at family gatherings continue to be treasured memories by family and friends. Bennett also enjoyed fishing trips and morning golf outings with the guys.
Blessed to have loved him and left to cherish precious memories are his mother, Geraldine Moss (passed July 5, 2025); wife, Alice Moss; son, Bennett Moss Jr.; daughter, Tracie Johannsen (Brent); granddaughter, (his pride and joy) Zora Johannsen; sisters, Willie Mae Simms, Dorothy Louise Bailey, Gustanna “Gus” Chaney, Anita Taylor (Randy), and Kathy Wilson (Greg); brothers, Joe McGowan (Veronica), Jimmy Moss, and Bruce Moss; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Bennett was preceded in death by his father, Hue Bennie Moss, sister, Gloria L. Bibbs, and brothers, Danny Ray Moss and Clifton Sanders, Jr.
A visitation for Bennett will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
