Bertha Marcella Edwards

Bertha M. Edwards (Itcy) was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 17th, 1935, to her parents Robert Green (KY) and Helen Goodwin Green (KY). She graduated from Central High School in 1952. At a young age she was baptized at Forrest Baptist Church of Louisville, KY.

On February 14th, 1961, she married James A. Edwards. In 1962, they and the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. She later was employed by RCA where she was a record controller and made records. After retiring, she joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member where she always volunteered for Tea Day and Women’s Day.

Bertha was preceded in death by: her parents, Robert & Helen Green; her husband, James Edwards; a son, Robert David Green; daughter, Mona C. Edwards; grandson, Randy G. Green; brother, George Green; and sister, Julia Bell Green.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Dotaphelia Green and Susan Edwards; sons, Rodney L. Green (Traci) and Steven E. Edwards (Mia); grandchildren, Rodney A. Green, Damieon E. Mays and Steven E. Edwards II; great-grandchildren: Brandi Green, Taiyon E. Thompson, Rodney’a and Autumn Green, Demarhi Mays and Damiyah Mays; great-great-grandchildren, Michai Williamson and Kaleia Thompson; niece, Sheryl Gordon (Turahn); and step-children, Authur Edwards (Arnetia), Constance (Cranston Sr.) and Melvin (Patty). She is also survived by her special, loving family: The Sutphin’s (Samuel, Kerry, Ben, Mac and Claire) and a host of cousins and friends from Indianapolis and Kentucky.

A visitation for Bertha will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.
