Brett Christopher Hayes

Brett Christopher Hayes, age 31, of Carmel, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Brett was born July 30, 1989 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Brett was an avid outdoorsman, preferring to be camping, hiking, hunting, or fishing. He enjoyed all things sharks, fish, turtles, and most every other type of living creature. Sharks and hunting were some of his favorite topics of conversation. Being out amongst nature was where he found the most at peace. He had a passion for teaching safe marksmanship and responsible gun ownership. He often would spend hours hunting and hiking at nearby state recreational areas while his beloved Grandma Betty would wait patiently, driving him there and back all to have cherished 1:1 time with her grandson. Brett attended Christ the King Grade School and played a year of football at Bishop Chatard High School before graduating from Options High School in Carmel. After a few years working at McAllisters in Carmel, Brett moved to Prescott, Arizona to study gunsmithing at Yavapai College. After receiving his degree, he returned to his home state and worked as a gunsmith in Fort Wayne. On one of his trips home from Prescott, Brett drove the entire way on a small motorcycle that took him on a three day cross-country adventure. Brett was a respectful young man who was known and loved for his politeness. He had a smile that could light up the room and he was best known for his genuinely heartfelt hugs, especially the “tighter, tighter, tighter” variety. Quiet and gentle, his family and close friends meant the most to him. Brett is survived by his parents, Tom Hayes and Amy (Williams) Hayes; sister, Cara Bilse (Alex); brother Ryan Hayes; grandparents, Robert and Joanne Williams; niece, Hensley Bilse; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brett was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grandma Betty (Williams), Robert Hayes and Barbara Hayes. Visitation for Brett will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5884 Crittenden Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
