

79, of Indianapolis, departed this life Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Indianapolis. He was born June 10, 1937 in Washington DC to the late Earl F. and Mary Lou (Reising) Christen. Bruce was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral High School and then earned his degree in engineering from Notre Dame University in 1961. He served his country in the US Army Reserves. Bruce worked as an engineer for Naval Avionics for over 35 years, then at Rolls Royce until his retirement. He loved Notre Dame Football, Indiana University Basketball and rarely missed an Indianapolis Colts game. Bruce was a dedicated man of faith and family. He was a 40 year member of Nativity Catholic Church, and was also a volunteer at Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He was a member of the Father Gootee Council of the Knights of Columbus, and the Society of Logistic Engineers. He loved making memories with his family. He taught his granddaughter how to fish and play golf and spent many hours in his shop teaching his grandson how to work with wood.He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jan (Vaughn) Christen; children, Diane (Ron Wise) Slomka and Scott Christen; grandchildren, Andie and AJ Slomka and siblings, Eric (Dolores) Christen, Elaine (Jerry) Trumpey and Anita (Rolf) Lippert. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 pm on Wednesday, August 31st at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 1st at Nativity Catholic Church with visitation there beginning at 10:30 am. Final services will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Church of the Nativity K of C Scholarship Fund.
