Carol Ann (Lennon) Fitch, age 87, of Beech Grove, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. She was born on January 4, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Edward Lennon Jr. and Virginia Fike.
From an early age, Carol displayed remarkable resilience. After surviving a serious car accident and traumatic head injury as a child, she went on to live a long and full life.
She graduated from Shortridge High School in the Class of 1956 and went on to attend Butler University. It was there that she met the love of her life, a proud Navy sailor, Hubert Fitch. He quickly swept her off her feet, and the two shared 61 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2019. The day Hubert passed, a piece of Carol’s heart went with him.
Carol and Hubert were founding members of South Emerson Church of God, where their faith played a central role in their marriage and in raising their family. They devoted their lives to serving God. Carol especially loved singing in the choir, lifting her voice in praise.
A devoted wife, mother, and "Mama," Carol dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren. She had a special gift for nurturing little ones and taught several of her grandchildren to read at a very young age. Her home was always filled with warmth, love, and the sound of children’s laughter.
Carol is survived by her children: Sharrie (David) Ray, Stephen (Kimberly) Fitch, Larry Fitch, Rebecca Abrell, and James "Jim" (Shelley) Fitch; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren who will miss their beloved Mama dearly.
She is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with her husband, Hubert; her son, David James; and her mother, Virginia.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at South Emerson Church of God, 3939 S Emerson Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM at the same location. Graveside services will take place afterward at Floral Park Cemetery – Washington Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
