

Carolyn Sue Whittaker was born in Indianapolis, IN to Josephine Calhoun and Kertess Morton on May 9th, 1946. She united in marriage with Gerald A. Whittaker for 38 years and to this union two daughters were born, Tracy Marie Byrns and Kelly Jean Colquit. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. Carolyn was raised by her mother Josephine and step father George Calhoun.
Carolyn worked as an apartment manager and homemaker. Family and close friends were important to her. She has many talents, including writing a book, decorating, sewing, painting, crocheting, & reupholstering furniture. She also enjoyed gardening, music, playing guitar and piano, watching her soap operas & westerns, as well as her bible study program.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Gerald A. Whittaker, mother Josephine Calhoun, father Kertess Morton, step father George Calhoun, grandmother Fannie Williams, aunt Estella Demar, granddaughter Angela M. Buckner, and son in law William Colquit.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory daughters Tracy Byrns and Kelly J. Colquit, sisters Patricia Calhoun, and Linda Stewart, granddaughters Amber M. Whittaker and Tonya G. Buckner, great granddaughters Za’niya G. Holland, Za’Khia M. Holland, Chyna Hackett, Zaylea N. Buckner, son in law Anthony A. Byrns, niece Kim Mobley, great nephew Mario Johnson, as well as a host of relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed, but NEVER forgotten.
A visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, located at 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, on November 6, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location, beginning at 1:00 pm.
