Obituary of Catherine H. Stewart
Catherine H. Stewart, 87, of Indianapolis passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 surrounded by her family. Cathy was born in La Porte City, Iowa to the late Collin H. and Mildred M. Hamilton on August 4, 1933. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1951 as Salutatorian of her class and upon graduation was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She married the late Donald F. Stewart on June 14, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa. After raising three sons, she resumed her career with the FBI in Indianapolis and retired after 25 years of Federal service in 2006. Cathy was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there when her family needed her. She brought immense joy to everyone she met and was most known for her wonderful smile and endless laughter. She was a strong family leader and provided boundless wisdom, guidance, and mentorship to her family. Cathy loved gardening and was well known for her beautiful roses and delicious tomatoes. She was a wonderful cook who rarely let anyone leave her home without a take home package made with love. She also enjoyed watching sports and was an avid bowler and bridge player. She previously was an active member of The Riviera Club for many years and attended Castleton United Methodist Church. Along with her parents and beloved husband, Cathy was preceded in death by her brothers Collin and Harold. She is survived by her children Gregory D. Stewart (Julie), Richard B. Stewart (Diana) and James M. Stewart; her siblings M. Arlene, James and La Donna; her grandchildren Christopher C. and Allison L. Stewart. Family and friends will gather for the visitation on Monday, November 30th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Crown Hill Cemetery’s Gothic Chapel. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm in the chapel; service seating is limited to 25 due to Covid-19. The service can be viewed via Livestream on the Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery facebook page at the time of service. Following the service, Catherine will be laid to rest next to Donald within Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the critical care staff at Community North Hospital for their care and compassion.
