

Charles Edward Harry IV was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 11, 1929 to Charles Edward Harry III and Martha Selma (Beck) Harry. Chuck was the youngest of two. His older sister, Martha Louise (Harry) Harris preceded him in death.
Charles was an active youth, focused on his studies, learning to play the trumpet and climbing the ranks of the Boy Scouts to achieve the level of Eagle Scout at age 15. He received his education in the Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1946.
As a young man, Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1951 â€" 1954 ascending to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Upon receipt of an honorable discharge, Charles studied at Indiana University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 and Master of Science in Education in 1957.
While spending an afternoon on IU’s campus with his friend, Hersel Williams, they stopped to visit Hersel’s sister, Wilma. It was at that moment he met the love of his life, Wilma A Williams and the two eventually married on his birthday, August 11, 1955. To this union, two children were born, Janet Harry and Jill (Harry) Rahman. Both daughters have followed in their parents’ footsteps with a love of learning and service.
Charles was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Zeta Phi Chapter, in 1948; the chapter in which his father was a charter member. Charles served Omega Psi Phi Fraternity with brotherly love and unwavering dedication. In the Zeta Phi Chapter, Charles served many offices, including: Basileus (President), Keeper of Records and Seal, Chaplain, Historian, Dean of Pledges and Graduate Advisor. He is a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Chuck was an active and contributing member of many organizations, including Crispus Attucks Alumni Association, Charter Member of the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club, Northside Kiwanis Club and Romans Social Club. He was a lifelong member of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church.
He started his career in the Indianapolis Public Schools in 1957 in the Department of Social Studies at Arsenal Technical High School and retired after 33 years of service. He served as a teacher, guidance counselor, director of guidance and mentor to many at Arsenal Technical High School and Arlington High School.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Wilma; his daughters Janet Harry, Jill (Earl) Rahman; grandson, Rasul Rahman; nieces and nephew, Diane Harris, Louis (Pam) Harris Jr., Alison Harris, great nieces and nephews and countless friends, former students and colleagues.
