Charlie L Smith

CHARLIE L. SMITH was born in Maury County in Spring Hill, Tennessee on February 7, 1924, to Will and Melinda Gentry. Charlie moved to Indianapolis in 1950 and lived here for the remainder of her life and was the six of seven children.

Charlie was a domestic worker and worked for LS Ayers, Stouts & Noyes Family. All 3 families were millionaires in Indianapolis IN. She was a hard worker; farmer and she loved to quilt and sew. Charlie loved horses and motorcycles. She also loved jazz; BB King was her favorite musician. Charlie liked to sit on the porch and smoke her cigarettes. Charlie will be greatly missed.

Charlie is preceded in death by her parents Will and Melinda Gentry, her brother Willie Lee Gentry and her sisters, Hollie Mae Steele, Odell Gentry, Clara Bell, Willie B, Alberta Melinda, and grandson Russell Hinkle Jr. She leaves her only daughter Shirley L. Nichols (Hinkle), 2 grandchildren Tina Marie Hinkle and Duane Hinkle. 13 great grandchildren 6 great-great grandchildren, multitude of nieces and 2 nephews St Clair Baugh, Gerald “Jerry” Bell, friends and acquaintances.

A visitation for Charlie will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, from 11-1pm at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a funeral at 1:00 PM.
