Thanks be to God that Claudette passed peacefully to her heavenly home at 91 years old. Her son and daughter were by her side at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Praise the Lord for Claudette’s ministry to others by sharing her love of Jesus, in prayers, music, and conversation.
Claudette was born in Arcola, Illinois in 1935 and was the first child of Fred and Pearl Phillips. She had five siblings and was preceded in death by both of her brothers, Fredrick and Monty. She is survived by her sisters, Frieda Cummins, Brenda (Rick) Kemp and Tyonia (Russ) Hodges.
Claudette was married to James Stephens in 1953 until his death in 2007 and had two children. She is survived by son, Kevin Stephens, granddaughter, Kelly (David) Springer, and great-granddaughter Joanna. She is also survived by daughter, Kaylee Stephens and granddaughter Evelyn (Edmerald) Gan.
Claudette’s second marriage was to Floyd Lyle Spaugh in 2009 until his death in 2015. Lyle is survived by his daughters Pamela Huebschman and Barbara Barksdale. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Claudette’s home church: Castleton Church of the Nazarene.

Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, on September 4, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 1:00 pm.
