Clifton Wright, the youngest of four children, was born to the union of Joe Wright and Estelle (Brown) Wright on May 31, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN. In 1931, the family returned to Madison, GA where he was raised and educated. In 1945, he married Geraldine (Watson) Wright (Deceased), the mother of his stepdaughter, Juanita Wright of Conyers, GA. To their union, four children were born, Joyce Marie Wright of Decatur, GA, Deacon Alonzo Wright (Mother Janie P. Wright) of Fayetteville, GA, Willie Clifton Wright of Atlanta, GA (Deceased) and Willie Armour Wright of Decatur, GA (Deceased). In 1950 Clifton returned to Indianapolis. And in 1955, he moved to Detroit, MI where he patterned a most distinguished career as a cross-country driver for Ryder Trucking Company and the Supreme Distributions Corporation. "Driver of the Year" and "Driver of the Month" awards are among the numerous honors he received. In addition, as a proud father, he received a plaque in honor of his commitment to family as an outstanding family man. A "Renaissance Man," Clifton Wright was also an entrepreneur for Pacific Appliances of Detroit, MI, as well as an electrician with John York. Because of his gifted hands and creative mind, he soon became widely known for his ability to be conversant in and adept at utilizing his many skill sets in various trade arenas.
On September 10, 2011, he married Mrs. Bobby Jean Craig, who was, at that time, widowed by the late Rev. Dr. Lawrence L. Craig, Sr. for 21 years. Clifton and his beloved wife, Mrs. Bobby Jean Craig Wright, then labored in love together to receive a "Certificate of Achievement" award from the Phillips Temple CME Church of Indianapolis, IN recognizing their outstanding service for married couples on February 12, 2017. Bourne out of their Christ-filled union as nurtured and prospered by his dearest wife, Bobby Jean, was his acceptance of Jesus the Christ as his Lord and Savior on the 15th day of September, 2013. And concurrently, he became a member of the Phillips Temple CME Church as he was baptized by an associate minister, the Rev. Carl Kelly.
Cliff, as he was so affectionately referred to by both friends and family, always enjoyed being with people as well as enjoying his own personal time in his "Man Cave" where he thoroughly lived out his joy for music via his vast collection of recordings. Clifton Wright loved cooking, barbecuing, gardening and also had a great passion for flowers. His life motto was, "Do to others as you would have them do to you" (Luke 6:31 NIV). Possessing a generous spirit and having been abundantly blessed by God, he was a cheerful giver. And as a lover of music, he lived-out this verse: "If I can help somebody as I pass along, If I can cheer somebody with a word or song, If I can show somebody that he's traveling wrong, Then my living shall not be in vain..."
At 2:30AM on September 25, 2019, Jesus of Nazareth passed by as Clifton Wright put out a feeble, trembling hand to touch the hem of His garment. And in that instant - "In the twinkling of an eye" - Clifton Wright was transferred from the weakness and sickness of earth, to the gardens of immortal youth and glory where years are not counted, for there are no years there. Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe Wright and Estelle (Brown) Wright; one brother: Joe Henry Wright; two sisters: Sally Robinson and Rosalie Hunter; two sons: Willie Clifton Wright and Willie Armour Wright, and one grandson: Lanous T.
