Obituary of Creighton Leo Meyer
Creighton Leo Meyer was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 18, 1946 to Rose and Louis Meyer. He grew up in the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church community and at an early age was encouraged to become a priest. His studies continued at The Latin School, a pre-seminary boy’s high school. Afterwards he went on to earn his degree from St. Mary's College in Marion County, Kentucky. He continued his studies at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. His path changed when he met a classmate, Janet Cody. After getting special permission to leave the seminary, they were married 10/20/1973. Creighton joined the family business, Interstate Castings, where he worked in various capacities for over 40 years. But his true job was his family. He and Janet were a united front in raising their nine children. Along with transporting, supporting and encouraging the kids in their activities and events, he was an active member of Christ the King Parish, serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister as well as leading baptism and marriage preparation classes. He helped in outreach with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and was a regular blood and platelet donor. For many years he enjoyed Friday night pick-up basketball games with friends until his knees had enough. He could often be found at the helm of the family VW bus and later 15-passenger van during roadtrips across the US and up to South Bend on autumn Saturdays to cheer on Notre Dame football. He had a little known passion of making donuts for the family every weekend and could fill the kitchen with his singing while he cooked. When Janet became ill with cancer he devotedly cared for her until she passed in 2013. At 10:20pm on January 11th, Creighton joined his beloved wife again. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Tom Cody and namesake nephew, Creighton McGuire. Creighton is survived by his children, Jonathan (Susan), Melanie (Ivan), Cynthia (Mike), Paul, Nicholas, Gregory (Mary), Julia, Jeffrey and Heidi, 17 grandchildren, his brother Fred (Val), his sister Marilyn and many nieces and nephews.
