

Darnell was born on February 26, 1956, in Starkville, Mississippi, as a twin to Joe and Rosetta Hill. He was raised on the family farm and later attended Arsenal Technical High School, where he excelled in track, football, and basketball, graduating in 1974.
Following high school, Darnell enlisted in the National Guard before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1976. That same year, he married Karen Hughes on August 28, and together they had two children, Darnell Hill and Kia Hill. After his military service, Darnell worked for Local 120 for over 20 years. He was also a devoted father to additional children, Tina Allen and Lovie Hunn.
Darnell was known for his quiet nature and love of western films. He was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Indianapolis Colts. One of his favorite sayings was, “Lay back like a fat rat with a piece of cheese.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Rosetta Hill; his brothers, Joe Hill Jr., Willie James Hill, Charles Hill, and Jerry Hill; his sisters, Mary Hill and Martha Buckner.
Darnell is survived by his twin brother, Dennis Hill, his sister, Betty Davidson, his brother, Tommy Hill, his children, Darnell Hill, Kia Hill, Lovie Hunn, Tina Allen; and his grandchildren, DeAnthony Hill, Jalen Hill, Vanessa Hill, Kalen Hill, Amiyah White, and Amir Sherman. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Darnell’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Darnell will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.
