

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Christopher Hoover of Indianapolis, Indiana. David was born in Indianapolis October 29, 1956, and transitioned, surrounded by family, out of this life on May 21, 2026.
David was a well-respected member of the Indianapolis community through his work as Executive Director - Indianapolis of the Hoover Family Foundation. The foundation's main objective is to support non-profit organizations that foster the development of individual self-sufficiency through social services and educational programs. Established in 1992 by his parents Jim and Katie Hoover and his grandmother Mildred Mickle Hoover, The Hoover Family Foundation will continue to support local non-profits in Indianapolis and Portland, Oregon.
An avid tennis player, David was awarded a tennis scholarship to Butler University and was ranked #2 in the State of Indiana. He later owned and operated a Racquet Sports Shop and worked in the finance and insurance industries.
He was also a proud member of AA and served on the Board of Directors at the Carvel Club in Indianapolis. He was a member of the American Tennis Association and a corporate member of The White River Yacht Club for many years. He also founded and was President of the WRYC Foundation. He loved collecting coins and was a member of The American Numismatic Association.
He is survived by his loving wife Janine M. Hoover, children Kellee McCalman, Jill Heller and Matthew Dumas. Grandchildren Lauren (Ryan McVey) Hofmeister, Chase (Audrey) Hofmeister, Jack Heller, Keelee Sullivan, David Sullivan (d.) and Scarlet McCalman. Great Grandchildren Ari, Cora, Lincoln and Ollie. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Katherine Hoover. Survived also by his sisters Anne (Bryan Brown) Hoover and Cindy (Glen Friedman) Hoover. Sister and Brother-in-law Sherrie Bly, Brian (Maureene) Bly and Bradley Bly. Nieces and nephews Alison, Lindsay, Sha, Julie, Zinnia, Christy, Beth, Danielle, Valerie and Miranda. And last but not least, Dodger!
A private service will be held on June 3rd at Crown Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow on June 28th, 2026, at The White River Yacht Club from 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor David's philanthropic legacy with donations to The White River Club Foundation. The foundation, created by David, is dedicated to educational and charitable purposes through the maintenance and improvements of The White River Yacht Club.
