Obituary of David S James
To put a theme on the rich life of David St. Clair James would be “do right by Jehovah, give love and be light.” For those that had the pleasure of crossing paths with him, they soon came to learn that this 6’ 2”, friendly giant was an easy going, fun loving man who wanted nothing more than to allow others to also see the good and glory of God. He hailed from the sunny island of Trinidad and Tobago. The youngest of three children born to Maragret (Weeks) and Fitzroy James. He enjoyed flavorful food, had an unmatched comedic timing, love for all and a knack for seeing the glass half full. He emigrated to the United States and began making a life for himself amongst family in Boston, MA, David graduated as a skilled plumber. He wed Susan Rice and they deeply loved, cared for and raised two children, Jasmine Davia Rice and David William Adrian Fitzroy. Their marriage of 28 years took them to St. Louis, MO, Indianapolis, IN with many adventures along the way. One would think that it was almost impossible for David to see someone in a bad light. Not to be mistaken for naivete, it was truly a God-given gift that he always found the light in a situation. He had more than his fair share of adversity and challenges and yet with each one, he would faithfully say “I am thankful to Jehovah to be alive.” Even until his last years on Earth, instead of crippling under the sadness and sorrow that he would have been more than entitled to, he made it his duty to mend bridges, take pride in his grandson who he loved dearly and always offering an encouraging word or scripture. His welcoming smile, the friendliness of his greetings, the love he showed everyone and his positive view of life would be missed by everyone. David will always be remembered as the loudest and proudest parent on the sidelines of his children’s games. He enjoyed soccer, cricket, watching all sorts of sports and walks with loved ones. He assisted with the coaching of his son’s soccer and basketball teams. A lifelong learner, he studied scripture, can be remembered by his daughter as always having an encyclopedia nearby. He was incredibly handy and always tinkering or trying to fix something. By working for the Washington Township School District in Indianapolis, he was able to combine two of his favorite things: seeing the joy of children, education and plumbing. David was predeceased by his wife Susan, his parents and his sister Annette. He leaves to mourn his passing, his children Jasmine (son-in-law, Jules), David and Kevon, his grandson Solomon, his sister Rosalind Idona, brother Jamesy, niece Roxlind, Lizanne, Stacy, Kyron, Jeremy, and Brandy. Great Uncles Peter, John and James. Cousin Dorien as well as a host of relatives and friends.
