Debra Carlene Davis Montfort, aged 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love for her children and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mildred Davis, and sister Janice Goldsby.
Debby is survived by her children, Carly Van Cleave (Claude), Natalie Newkirk (J.R.), Ashley Montfort, grandchildren Trevor VanCleave (Taylor), Cammie VanCleave, Daniel Richey, Schyla Richey, David Newkirk, Presley Newkirk, and Madelynn Meiser, along with five great grandchildren, siblings Brenda Johnson (Mike), Jeff Davis (Penny), brother-in-law John Goldsby and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loyal fur baby, Myla Mabel.
No one could have asked for a better grandmother, mother, sister, or aunt. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled, and we will miss her every day.
Debby joined the Davis family on March 7, 1956 while her brother and two sisters waited at home to celebrate her brother’s fourth birthday. It became a special birthday they shared. Debby was truly a bundle of joy who was shy, never forgot a special occasion, was generous yet well known for being sneaky. If you walked into the house on Finley Avenue where she lived with her parents and happened to glance behind the sofa it was no surprise to find a carton of Pepsi Debby had hidden there in case she had a craving.
Debby grew up on the south side of Indianapolis and attended Manual High School. She worked many years at the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and appreciated her time there as a union representative. Debby retired early from the Indiana Department of Child Services, and as a result, was fortunate to travel and spend more time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also earned a reputation as a super shopper. She always found the best deals in town.
From a young age, Debby knew she wanted to be a mother to girls and would spend time dreaming up exotic names for them. Her passion for unusual names faded over time, but she got her wish for the girls. She was blessed with three unique, wonderful girls: Carly, Natalie and Ashley.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana. Immediately following the funeral service there will be a procession to the Greenwood Cemetery.
