

Delbert “Red” Walterman, 79, Greenwood, IN passed away November 3, 2021. Red was born May 27, 1942 in Connersville, IN to the late Harold and Leona Walterman. Red was a wonderful husband, father, papaw, great-papaw, son, sibling and friend. Red enjoyed spending time with his family, all types of auto racing and sports. Red’s second love in life was his passion for acquiring and restoring classic cars. Red had a successful career with the Indianapolis Police Department beginning in 1966. Red spent time as a Patrol Officer, a member of the Elite Motorcycle Drill Team, and later transitioned to Detective with the Vice Unit as well as the Criminal Intelligence Unit. He retired from the Department in 1986. In 1989, Red began a new career, and would go on to become a “face of the Hoosier Lottery” on the Hoosier Millionaire TV show and a favorite of the entire Hoosier Lottery staff, retiring in 2011.
Red is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Walterman. Red and Kathleen would have celebrated 59 years of marriage later this month; Children: James (Andrea) Walterman, Christina (David) Edwards, Julie Walterman, and Jo Ann (Mark) Spall; Grandchildren Hannah, Meredith, Nicholas, Bryan, Lauren, Brooke and Christopher, along with 9 Great-Grandchildren. Also surviving is Red’s brother, Donald Walterman (Vicki-deceased); and sister, Carolyn (Edward-deceased). Red is preceded in death by his sister Constance Gregory.
Visitation will be held at Little and Sons Funeral Home (4901 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, In. 46237) on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 12:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis.
