Delores Ann (Saunders) Frownfelter, went to be with the Lord at 7:13 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023 with her husband Clarence by her side after a long extended illness which had her hospitalized at the IU West Hospital for 18 months. She will be missed as a wife, mother, and a woman who became a dedicated and talented Christian and who, at age 12, started playing the piano and organ in her church.
Born June 20, 1940 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky to Edward S. and Alma Gladys (Lyons) Saunders, she first married Roweland Huettner and later married Clarence Frownfelter on January 5, 2001 in Maysville, Kentucky,
Delores is survived by her husband Clarence, her little dog Spice, two of her three sons, Christopher Huettner and Matthew Huettner (wife Samantha who is soon to deliver Delores' first and only grandchild, a little girl). Her third and oldest son Roweland Huettner is deceased.
Delores is also survived by two sisters, Emma Jo Lashbrook and Amy Parker, one brother Sherman, (his wife Margaret), sister-in-law Jane Saunders (husband Clarence Eddie, Delores other brother is deceased), and a half-brother, J.R. and family plus many nieces nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Delores attended Morehead State University, taught in public school, became a licensed Real Estate Agent in Indiana and competed in beauty pageants in Kentucky, one of which she received the crown of first place. This sent her to the competition for Miss Kentucky at Louisville where she came in as the first runner up. Since her marriage to Clarence, they owned and operated Travel Made To Order which exposed them to many new friends. This was extended by their involvement in US Air Force Reunions annually where Delores became acquainted with many wives of Clarence's Korean War Veteran buddies. Many of these ladies were Christians and were involved with church prayer groups and were kept informed concerning Delores' progress.
Both Clarence and Delores had a great love for gospel music where they used their talents in several Churches of The Nazarene in the area before attending Crosspointe Baptist Church most recently.
Delores and Clarence shared a wonderful testimony and Christ like spirit at IU West Hospital with the Doctors and Staff. Because of the extended stay, in most cases, they were known by their first names to most of the staff. The family is most appreciative to those people who gave wonderful care and love shown to Delores.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Crosspointe Baptist Church, 221 Country Club Road, Indianapolis, with Rev. Thomas Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow the service at West Ridge Park Cemetery and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in memory of Delores be made to Crosspointe Baptist Church.
