Born on July 5, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dennis was a late firecracker—both in birthdate and spirit—earning him the endearing nickname “Dennis the Menace.” True to the name, he carried a mischievous grin, a curious mind, and a fearless heart throughout his life.
Dennis had an insatiable love for speed and all things mechanical. From a young age, he was drawn to fast vehicles, not just to drive them, but to understand them. This passion led him to a lifelong career as a skilled mechanic and jack-of-all-trades. There was not a car or machine he couldn’t take apart and rebuild. He even owned a junkyard at one time, where many saw wreckage Dennis saw potential.
Among his proudest accomplishments was acquiring his beloved 1961 Buick LeSabre convertible. He spent years touring the car show circuit through Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida, proudly showing off his beautifully preserved classic. His shelf of trophies stood as a testament to both his dedication and his eye for timeless beauty.
Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: April (Jeff) Bethuram, Jennifer (Eric) Barlow, and Danielle Whisler (Dean); his grandchildren: John (Abbie), Brandon (Kimberly), Fayth-Anne, Lexas (Les), Bruce (Maranda), and Cayden; and his great-grandchildren: Harrison and Lennox. He also leaves behind his siblings: Barbara, Richard, Mary (Larry), Michele, and Theresa (Paul); along with many extended family members, cherished friends, and his faithful four-legged companion, Romeo.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Harold and Alma; his brothers, Donald and James; and his granddaughter, Emma.
Dennis lived boldly, loved deeply, and left behind a trail of stories, laughter, and grease-stained fingerprints on the lives of everyone he touched.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 5333 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation at 10 am and mass to follow at 11 am.
