

“For I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith. Dianna Brayboy Caldwell, daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Durant Brayboy, was born February 10, 1951, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was the fifth of their seven children. Dianna accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She was baptized and became a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Dianna received her formal education from the Winston-Salem Public Schools System. Upon high school graduation, she attended and graduated from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. After college graduation, Dianna met and married Michael Caldwell in 1975. To that union, one child, Candy Caldwell was born. She later moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and obtained employment at Pharmacia-Biochemical, where her duties focused on analyzing chemicals for pharmaceutical use.
Dianna, later, moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Though health challenges interfered with her career goals, she continued to exercise her Faith in God by practicing resilience and determination, as she held numerous healthcare positions.
Dianna was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a genuine love for her siblings and other family members. She, also, enjoyed meeting people. She made them feel special and important. Dianna was, also, a problem solver, who often took on difficult and unwanted tasks, whether at work, in the community or around her home. She loved to cook, clean, and organize. Noteworthy, was her generous spirit and giving heart. Service to others is the indelible imprint, Dianna will forever be remembered. She was dedicated and committed to serving her community in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Indianapolis, Indiana. Her dedication and commitment to serving others represented her obedience to one of God’s expectations of her.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Dianna Brayboy Caldwell’s earthly journey was completed. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Andrew James and Amelia Nesmith Baker; parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Durant Brayboy; brothers, Babylon Brayboy, and James Willie Brayboy and favorite aunt, Clotell Nesmith.
Dianna leaves to cherish her loving memory, daughter, Candy Caldwell Kelsey, Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughter, Khamara Jewel Kelsey, Indianapolis, Indiana; siblings: Dennis Michael Brayboy (Genieve, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Oscar Brayboy, Jr. (Betty), Kernesville, North Carolina; Kathy Brayboy Brown (James), Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Dr. Shirley Brayboy Moutry (Johnny), Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Nephews, Jason Brayboy (Tiffany), Loganville, Georgia; Lathan Brayboy; Nieces, Miesha Gadsden (De’ angle), Dr. Felicia J. Moutry, Lithonia, Georgia; Melita N. Reaves (Jason), Southfield, Michigan; Dr. Tara J. Wooldridge (Carnelius), Buford, Georgia; Favorite cousin, Trudy Leocadio, Baltimore, Maryland; Great Grand Nephews: William Gadsden, Joshua Gadsden, Avery Brayboy, Jacoby Brayboy, Jaylen Brayboy, Ethan Reaves, Logan Reaves, Charles Dearmon, London Woolridge; Great Grand Nieces: Amaya Brayboy, Malia Gadsden and a host of other relatives and friends.
