Dixie Gay Freeman

Dixie Gay Freeman, age 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Dixie was born July 21, 1947 in Walton, Indiana to the late Donald Carey and Margaret (Jones) Johnson. She graduated from Lewis Cass High School in Walton, Indiana. Dixie met the love of her life, Gary Freeman, in high school and they attended their first date together at the Sweetheart Ball. They married on June 11, 1966 and spent 58 years together. Dixie was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and jewelry making. Dixie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dixie is survived by her loving husband, Gary Freeman; children, Stacy Hunter and Stephanie (Waylon) Cook; grandchild, Chelci Hunter; siblings, Patricia (Dennis) Vest, Sue Kraus and Julie Sands; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation for Dixie will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 6950 E Raymond St, Indianapolis, IN 46239. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
