Donald R. McHolland

Don is survived by wife Theresa Jonas McHolland, five step children: Michael Jonas (Virginia), Mary Kauffman (Doug), James Jonas, Dan Jonas (Kim) and Ann Deering (Jeff). He is also survived by four sisters and three brothers: Norma Able, Helen Weisner (Bob), Nancy Pifer (Tom), Rita McHolland, John McHolland, Joseph McHolland (JoAnn), and David McHolland (Sandy). He is also survived by fifteen loving and caring grandchildren and six beautiful great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, brothers Larry, Bob and Thomas, sister Elizabeth and step son Tom and first wife Julie A. Hope McHolland. Don felt extremely blessed to be surrounded by wonderful loving families.

Don earned a BS Degree from Ball State University and Master Degrees from Indiana University. He taught school in Perry Township, Shelby County, and MSD of Lawrence Township. His career in education covered 34 years, 28 in Lawrence Township serving as an elementary teacher, guidance counselor and elementary principal positions at Harrison Hill and Mary E. Castle. He was also a long time member of Indian Lake Country Club.

Don always had a joke in his back pocket. He brought so much laughter and joy to everyone around him. Whenever a minor situation arose his jokes never fell flat. His jokes were so witty and bright, that’s why his mother always called him “sonny”. We know that there now is a huge uproar of laughter and a lot of angels in heaven trying to sell chickens. Viewing will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, January 15 and 10:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday January 16 at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church, 1035 Glaser Way. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, 435 W. Troy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mary E. Castle Elementary School, Indianapolis, Indiana.
