Doris "DJ" J. Davis

DJ spent eleven years as a student at Indianapolis Public School System. At the time of her passing she was an employee of the United States Postal Service.

DJ worked hard for her children. She took pride in doing what needed to be done, and in true DJ fashion, she would say she was “getting that munyunnn.” Her children were her motivation and her greatest love. She rooted for them every step of the way, and they helped shape her into the woman she was becoming. Everything she did was connected to the life she was building for them. When she would lift others up, she would say, “As you should”.

DJ loved her mother and father dearly, and her family meant everything to her. She shared a special bond with those closest to her, and her love came through in the little phrases that belonged only to her. When she expressed love, she would say, “Love Your Faceeee,” and somehow those words carried warmth, affection, and the kind of love that made people smile. To her cousins, she would say, “Love You Cousinnnn,” a phrase that will forever echo in the hearts of those who heard it from her.

DJ mastered dancing at any beat at any time and she would sing her soul out! She was full of life, love, laughter, and celebration. When she entered a room, you knew she was there. With confidence, PERSONALITY, and that larger-than-life spirit, she would walk in and say, “Hello WORLD,” She was the life of the party. When it was time to go out and make memories with her friends, she would say, “Outside not In,” because DJ believed in celebrating the moment.

DJ had a playful way of showing love, especially with her big brother, whom she affectionately called “Uglee dude.” With the biggest smile on her face. It was pure DJ. Her words, her jokes, her laughter, and her expressions were all part of what made her unforgettable. Her larger-than-life presence will be missed more than words can express, but her voice, her sayings, her love, and her beautiful spirit will remain with her children, parents, siblings, family, and friends always. We’ll always love you and carry you in our hearts. “Yeaaaayeaaaaa”.

DJ was a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and loved one whose spirit touched so many lives. Her presence was bold. Her love was real. Although we are heartbroken by her unexpected passing, we are grateful for the time, love and celebration DJ shared with us.

DJ was preceded in death by; her grandfather, Henry Smith Jr.; Aunt Valerie Diane Smith; cousins; Antonio Jamel-Maurice Smith & Shiquita R. Jones along with many other family members and friends.

She loved and cared for the needs of her children; sons, Christopher Smith, Deon Johnson Jr. and daughters, Janylah Keys and Charlee Keys who all survived and loved her and will truly be missed by all of them.

DJ is also survived by her husband, Antwone Davis; her parents, L.C. and Debra Taylor, siblings, Tobias Smith; Konsinlyn Smith, Leeson Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Toy Smith, Lee Anthony Smith, Grandmother Doris Jean Smith, for whom she was named after as well aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved her and will greatly miss her as well.

The family would like to say thank you to who conveyed their love support for our family by means of prayers, condolences or kind words of encouragement during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, on July 25, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at Crown Hill Funeral Home at the same address on July 25, 2026, at 11:00am.
